Jewelry in the 7th art

jewelry in the 7th art

Who hasn't dreamed of wearing or seeing a piece of jewelry from one of the most famous films in cinema history? We'd be lying if we said we didn't know any of these jewels, because today, without having seen one of these films, we know perfectly well which jewel is linked to it. When jewelry meets the 7th art, or how two art forms can become one.

The famous Heart of the Ocean - Titanic (1997)

If you're a movie buff, you'll probably recognize this magnificent necklace worn by the sublime Kate Winslet in James Cameron's film Titanic. Released in 1997, this film made a name for itself in many ways. From the famous line about Rose being carried to the front of the liner, to the sad rafting scene, we certainly won't forget the Heart of the Ocean offered by Rose's (unappreciated) fiancé. This world-famous necklace does exist! The Heart of the Ocean is said to have been inspired by the "Hope" Diamond, also known as the "Bleu de France" or "Crown Blue Diamond". This exceptional and rare blue stone was discovered in India in the 17th century and sold to King Louis XV. The diamond was cut for the king's crown, then ended up on a brooch to adorn the Golden Fleece. During the French Revolution, the 45-carat diamond disappeared. It only reappeared several decades later in the hands of Henri Hope, who gave it its name. You can admire it with your own eyes, as it is preserved at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, USA. An opportunity not to be missed!

The One Ring - Lord of the Rings (released as a film in 2001)

In this fantasy trilogy, who hasn't heard of the famous power of the ring? An ordinary-looking ring, but one with many powers. Among other things, it can make you invisible and immortal, increase your strength, suppress aging and, last but not least, understand creatures of darkness. A jewel that many fans would have loved to own or already do. It was made by the Dark Lord known as Sauron, who used it to rule Middle-earth and enslave its peoples. A very sad use indeed. Nevertheless, the ring has captured the hearts of moviegoers, and its imitations have been sold an unimaginable number of times over. The author of these novels, J. R. R. Tolkien, thus succeeded in inserting a pure jewelry product into one of the world's most famous trilogies, making it the most famous ring in the history of jewelry!

The Mockingjay brooch - Hunger Games (released in 2012)

Let's move on to the famous Mockingjay brooch, which actress Jennifer Lawrence brings to the fore in her role as Katniss Everdeen, a young girl living in Panem's District 12. At the time, the inhabitants of 13 districts lived under an authoritarian government that would later provoke a civil war and destroy District 13. In the wake of this war, the government called Capitol decides to organize televised games: the Hunger Games. The aim of these games is to control the people. Each year, one boy and one girl from each district are sent into an arena to fight to the death. The sole survivor is declared the winner. The mockingjay (a bird breed imagined for The Hunger Games) becomes a symbol of revolt when Katniss uses its cry to warn of danger to the very young girl competing with her, who unfortunately does not survive. She uses the cry of the jay to pay homage to this little girl through the game show cameras. Katniss will thus be nicknamed "The Mocking Jay" by all the people and will become a real symbol of revolt and freedom for all the districts. We can therefore see that this brooch is much more than a magnificent accessory, it is also a symbol of freedom, revolt and the consolidation of peoples. A beautiful piece of jewelry with a real meaning that will perfectly enhance a beautiful blouse, for example!

The medallion - Pirate of the Caribbean (2003)

To conclude this article on famous jewels thanks to cinema, what better way than to talk about Johnny Depp's favorite medallion, aka Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean. A series of films, each more brilliant than the last, in which a very famous Captain Jack Sparrow is desperate to become rich and aspires to be the most feared pirate on the seas. The medallion in question is actually a piece of Inca treasure belonging to the father of Will Turner, the film's key character. What you need to know is that this treasure is cursed, but the pirates who are desperate to find it don't know it yet. When they finally find it, the curse falls upon them and turns all pirates who have touched the treasure into the living dead as soon as the full moon appears, rendering the crew of the coveted Black Pearl immortal. So this jewel doesn't have a good meaning... But it will have crossed generations thanks to the five films shot between 2003 and 2017. A medallion that many of us (we're sure) have longed for, to feel why not a little pirate at heart.

It's all very well for the cinema, but what if I want Julia Roberts' jewelry from Pretty Woman?
